Season Highlights
Opening Day of
the 2008 season of the Newport International Polo Series will
feature USA against Canada on Saturday, June 7 at 5:00 pm Hailing
from Canada’s far western province of Calgary, host of next year’s
winter Olympic Games.
June will also feature Newport’s archrivals from
Yale, who pack a powerful punch for the crowd, chiseling the home
team to battle-readiness for the Scottish Polo Team on deck, who
will be determined to defend their winning record against USA.
The Newport International Polo Series runs
continuously every Saturday through the summer, with an
international line-up that also includes England, Ireland, France,
Egypt, Jamaica and South Africa, as well as some teams closer to
home.
In July, both France and
Ireland will challenge the home team in their continuing series
against USA. The Irish match on July 19th will be
followed by the Newport Polo Club’s annual ‘Asado’ lamb roast
~ a polo tradition!
The first
weekend of August will provide a festive highlight of the summer
when the Egyptian Polo Team arrives from
Alexandria and
Cairo to be the
celebrated guests at the International Polo Ball ~ Supreme on
Fri., Aug. 1st and featured in the tribute match on Sat.
Aug. 2nd in the Polo Series against USA. The match will
be followed by the Newport Polo Club’s annual Lobsterbake. The
eighth annual black-tie gala takes place at one of Newport’s
glamorous destinations. Proceeds will benefit the Newport Polo
Education Foundation.

Keating, Polo Series founder.
The Series takes place on the
outskirts of Newport at historic Glen Farm in Portsmouth, where the
last 100 picturesque acres of what was once a 700-acre manorial farm
during the Gilded Age, are preserved today as an equine center and
recreational community property of the Town of Portsmouth. It is
located six miles north of downtown Newport on Route 138.
Tickets are available at the gate on the day of the match. Tailgate
picnics on the lawn are welcome with field-side admission of $10.00
for adults and children 15 & under are free. A limited number of
tickets are also available for box seating in the Subscribers
