Crowd-Favorite Jamaica Comes to Town

             August 16, 2008, Newport, RI:  … On Saturday, August 16^th at 5pm the Newport International Polo Series welcomes the return of the ever-popular Jamaican Polo Team. 

          The Jamaicans have a long standing rivalry against USA, with nearly equal record of victories in the Series. 

          USA team captain Dan Keating explains the prowess of the Jamaicans: "For a small country, Jamaica's polo players have an unusually high average handicap, because most of their players come from families that have played polo for generations.  They are a difficult team to beat.".

           The two-hour match will be followed by a trophy presentation of the perpetual USA vs. Jamaica cup and naming the Best Playing Pony.  Then, the Newport Polo Club invited the audience to partake in an authentic Jamaican jerk grill dinner catered by Tina's Caribbean Restaurant of Providence.

            The Series takes place at the historic and picturesque Glen Farm, the last 100 acres of what was once a 700-acre manorial farm whose history dates back to the 1600's.  Its classical stone barns from the Gilded Age and its park-like grounds were rescued from ruins and rehabilitated by the Newport Polo Club's founder in the early 90's and thrive today as a vital equestrian and community recreational property and jewel of Portsmouth.
