USA STOPS CANADA

USA showed determination on Saturday, September 16th in their victory against Canada in the Newport International Polo Series.

Leading the assault with four goals was USA's Tarzan Mark Wright in the #1 position, scoring a pair of goals in the first chukka, one in the second and another in the sixth chukka. From the #3 position, team captain Dan Keating continued the shelling with goals in the first, third and fourth chukkas. Gene Goldstein, playing in the #2 position, was on fire in the second chukka with two goals. In the #4 position, Aram Sheffrin scored in the third chukka.

High scorer for Canada was Reagan Delazizzo, playing in the #2 position, with a pair of goals in the third chukka, and single goals in the fourth and fifth chukkas. In the #3 position, Brandy Wilson was a consistent threat in the first half with goals in the first, second and third chukkas. Team captain Patrick Degrief played in the #1 position and Ryan Delazizzo played in the #4 position.

USA came out strong in the opening chukka, taking the lead early for a psychological edge on their opponents, 3-1. The second chukka was a repeat performance of the first with a different cast of scorers for USA as they expanded their lead to 6-2. In the third chukka, the Canadians came to life and battled back with three goals to USA's two, ending the half still behind 8-5. After much-needed divot-stomping by spectators during halftime, the match resumed with USA again taking charge with two goals to Canada's one and a daunting 10-6 lead. With bravado, Canada continued the fight, keeping USA at bay in the fifth chukka while adding a point of their own, making it 10-7, but ran out of steam in the sixth and went scoreless against USA's final goal in the 11-7 finish.
